Sometime in the mid 80’s I watched the movie Pretty in Pink. I had already started poking around thrift shops and vintage stores, digging around in my Nana’s closets and jewelry box, and redecorating my bedroom with antique bedspreads and crocheted dresser runners. But when I saw Andy Walsh played by Molly Ringwald, I thought she was the coolest chick on earth! And so began my love affair with vintage.
Fast forward 10 years, I decided to put into action the philosophy I so believe in, “Do what you love, love what you do!”, and opened my vintage clothing shop, The Rag and Bone, in State College, Pennsylvania.
After a fulfilling 17 year run, it was time for a change. I closed the shop, but have continued to sell vintage online through Etsy, under the name Steele Hollow Vintage. I work out of my 1830’s farmhouse in rural Pennsylvania that I share with my awesome husband Doug, our spirited 11 year old daughter Rose, our sweet dog Samson, and our two lazy cats, Willie and Pearl.
I decided to start a blog because I missed the sharing and connections I had when I owned the brick and mortar store. Every day I’d open the door for customers to come in to shop, but also to chat and tell stories, to get advice on cleaning that vintage dress, or to just get to know me. I made some wonderful friends and loved sharing more than just a product.
So, here through this blog I’m opening my virtual door and invite you to not just shop, but hear a story or two, learn a little something, and meet the girl behind a vintage shop.
I’m glad you stopped by!
